Angus Running Goal 2007

Running is by far my favorite way to stay in shape. I had not been running much until last year. In 2006, I set a goal to run a 10k race by my 40th birthday. I hit that goal by finishing the Jet to Jetty 10k in Playa del Rey, CA. It felt great. Now in 2007, I have been running only occasionally. So it’s time to step up, set a new goal, and finish the year strong.

THE BOB ANGUS 2007 CHALLENGE

The goal: Run a combined 200k by the end of 2007, starting September 1st.

I am tracking the Bob Angus 2007 Challenge using the cool Nike+ pedometer gadget and my iPod nano. Here is the latest status on my goal…

My finishing kick

I have joined two challenges on the Nike+ online community as an extra incentive in the last month of my personal 2007 running goal. First, I am supporting the USC Trojans in the USC vs. UCLA team challenge. The team with the most total miles by the big game wins. The challenge starts Saturday, November 24th and end on gameday Saturday, December 1st. Fight on!

Second, to help me work off all the great holiday food and festivities, I signed up to run at least 30 miles by Christmas. That is exactly a 1 mile per day average for the next 30 days. Ho! Ho! Ho!

Special note from October 18, 2007 run: Wow! Now Lance Armstrong is congratulating me. He must be the long distance and endurance spokesperson because he congratulated me for my longest run since using my Nike+ - a nice 6.13 mile run.

Special note from September 20, 2007 run: I got a special congratulations from Paula Radcliffe, the famous British long distance runner, through my Nike+ for running my fastest 5k - a personal best ever 24 min, 14 sec - and my fastest mile split - a lightning fast 7 min, 38 sec!
